Local Activites

We are ideally situated for a range of outdoor pursuits

Sea fishing is literally on your doorstep. Brown Trout fishing is available in several lochs on North Harris.

Salmon and Sea Trout fishing may be available at Amhuinnsuidhe Castle, this is mainly loch fishing and there are occasional days available during the season.

For charges and availability please contact Innes Morrison at the Castle.

Hill walking

There are spectacular walks to enjoy around Harris.  The wild life including Eagles and Sea Eagles add another dimension to the walks.

The North Harris Trust arranges walks, accompanied by the Ranger, often to the more remote parts of North Harris. They are usually in small groups, and are advertised locally.

There are also walking guide books in the cottage.

Isle of Harris Distillers

There are few places on earth where an evening around the fire can be as welcoming or as full of cheer.

At the head of the harbour in East Loch Tarbert, visible to everyone arriving there by land or sea, the first whisky distillery in Harris is starting to take shape.

Bird Watching

Around Harris there is a wide variety of bird life to be found, including the most majestic of them all, the Golden Eagle. Captured here just near to Huishnish beach.

Boat trips

There are several boats and Ribs that offer cruises to the off-shore Islands, including ST Kilda, The Shiants and other remote locations. Angus Campbell with (Orca 111) makes daily trips to St. Kilda, weather permitting, which is a world Heritage site. Seumas Morrison on The Enchanted Isle goes to the Shiants and also to St. Kilda.

Sea Trek which is based in Uig, on Lewis, does a variety of cruises to remote locations, including St. Kilda.

Surfing/Kayaking Golfing

Surfing, canoeing and Kayaking are gaining in popularity around the various beaches and sea shores. It is best to seek out local advice on the suitability and safety of beaches, for this type of activity.

The Golf course, at Scarista in South Harris, is beautifully situated on the edge of the Atlantic Ocean and  was voted one of the world’s most spectacular courses.

The course is open to non members.
